Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Vehicle Technician/MOT Tester to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting comprehensive vehicle inspections, performing maintenance and repair work, and carrying out MOT (Ministry of Transport) testing to ensure all vehicles meet safety and environmental standards. You will work with a variety of vehicle types and systems, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues, and providing expert guidance to ensure optimal vehicle performance and compliance. Your work will directly impact vehicle safety, customer satisfaction, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough MOT inspections on vehicles, checking brakes, emissions, lights, steering, suspension, and other critical safety systems in accordance with current MOT regulations
  • Perform diagnostic testing using specialized equipment to identify mechanical, electrical, and engine faults
  • Execute routine maintenance tasks including oil changes, filter replacements, fluid top-ups, and belt inspections
  • Repair and replace faulty components such as brake pads, suspension parts, exhaust systems, and engine components
  • Document all inspection findings, repairs completed, and test results accurately in the workshop management system
  • Communicate clearly with customers regarding vehicle condition, recommended repairs, and maintenance schedules
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment, adhering to health and safety regulations
  • Stay current with vehicle technology, repair techniques, and MOT regulation updates through ongoing training
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion of work orders
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment safely and effectively

Experience & Expertise Required:

  • Proven experience as a Vehicle Technician or similar automotive role, ideally with MOT testing certification or equivalent
  • Strong knowledge of vehicle systems including engine, transmission, brakes, suspension, electrical, and emissions
  • Proficiency with diagnostic equipment and workshop management software
  • Familiarity with current MOT regulations and safety standards
  • Competence in using hand tools, power tools, and lifting equipment safely
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations within an automotive workshop environment
